Tips from the Judges
Tips from the Judges?
A strong nomination goes beyond describing what a nominee does. It demonstrates the impact of her leadership, achievements, and contributions.
The following tips have been developed to help nominees prepare a compelling submission and provide judges with the information needed to fairly evaluate each application.
Be Specific
Provide detailed examples that clearly demonstrate the nominee's leadership, achievements, and impact. Avoid broad statements whenever possible.
Instead of saying:
"She is a great leader."
Consider:
"Under her leadership, the organization increased revenue by 25%, expanded its workforce, and launched two new community initiatives."
Demonstrate Impact
Judges are looking for measurable results and meaningful outcomes.
Whenever possible, include:
- Growth statistics
- Business achievements
- Community impact
- Program outcomes
- Team development accomplishments
- Examples of mentorship and leadership
Provide Evidence
Strong submissions include examples, stories, testimonials, or supporting materials that reinforce the nominee's accomplishments.
Supporting documentation can help demonstrate the significance of achievements and provide additional context for judges.
Address All Evaluation Criteria
Be sure to provide thoughtful responses to each section of the application.
Successful submissions clearly address:
- Leadership & Business Excellence
- Community Impact & Mentorship
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Submissions that address only one area may not score as strongly as those that demonstrate excellence across all criteria.
Highlight Inclusion and Leadership
For the Pinnacle Award, judges are particularly interested in how nominees create opportunities for others, foster inclusive environments, support professional growth, and contribute to a culture of belonging.
Share examples of initiatives, policies, mentorship activities, or leadership practices that demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging.
Tell a Story
The strongest submissions help judges understand not only what the nominee has accomplished, but also why those accomplishments matter.
Use examples that illustrate challenges overcome, opportunities created, people impacted, and the lasting effect of the nominee's leadership.
Final Advice from the Judges
Before submitting your nomination, ask yourself:
- Have I clearly demonstrated the nominee's impact?
- Have I included specific examples and measurable results?
- Have I addressed all evaluation criteria?
- Have I highlighted leadership, mentorship, and community contributions?
- Have I provided evidence to support my statements?
- Have I demonstrated the nominee's commitment to fostering inclusive environments?
A thoughtful, well supported submission gives judges the best opportunity to fully understand and appreciate the nominee's achievements.
